Project Ethos’ ‘Culture Shock’

More than 2,000 people packed the Vanguard nightclub in Hollywood to attend Project Ethos’ latest event, “Culture Shock.”
On March 27, Project Ethos showcased local emerging talent with an art installation, live concert and runway show, all under one roof. Between the fashion show and live performances by the bands Casxio and Carney, partygoers perused art displayed on a breezy outdoor patio.
Monica Ruiseco, who previously worked for retail consultant Directives West in Los Angeles, selected the mixed bag of Southern California–based designers appearing on the runway. Most were newbies to the fashion industry, and Project Ethos was “their first exposure to mainstream industry professionals,” Ruiseco said.
Alfred Lape’s line, Lavsh, was a standout with its cool menswear that blended a dapper, tailored aesthetic with a street edge. Agape by Danijela J. balanced pretty, sharp looks with a ruffled-collar jacket featuring sculpted puffy shoulders and a long, multi-tiered skirt in airy tulle.
Luxcher added a twist to the bubble skirt with an asymmetrical hem on a polka-dot dress. The Other Duck’s ensembles came in somber black and gray on the outside and had a futuristic slant. One gray coat opened up to a happy psychedelic-print lining.
Also shown on the runway were fun, short party dresses by Cowgirl Heaven; graphic prints on knit hoodies, dresses and tops by MidnightMare; graphic tops by Devious Damzels; and handbags by Mimeki.
